Key Stage1
Ages : 5 to 7 years oldYears : 1 and 2
In Key Stage 1 children are introduced to the core subjects, English, math and science. By the end of Year 2 children will take the English National Curriculum Tests (SATS) and a phonics screening test. Overviews of Computing, History, Geography, Art, Music and Physical Education (PE) are introduced as foundation subjects.
Teaching
Ours schools’ teaching methodology follows that of the English National Curriculum. KS1 bridges the play-based Early Years learning subjects. It relies on concrete, practical, and cross-curricular activities, using systematic phonics, structured discussions and continuous provision areas for academic and personal development.
Assessment
Our teachers use 2 types of assessment in KS1
- Formative Assessments which include daily questioning and informal observations to find out if students can independently demonstrate the expected outcomes.
- Summative Statutory Assessments
Differentiation
Year 1 Phonics. Screening Checks and at the end of Year 2 for English and Math. These assessments are delivered with low pressure and supportive tone.

Students build strong early literacy through phonics, reading fluency, speaking and listening, and simple writing. They learn to decode unfamiliar words, understand short texts, and write clear sentences with correct punctuation.
